Jonathan Gardner
Jonathan Gardner is COO and Sr. Managing Director of Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, where he oversees the daily operations of 175 employees in offices in Denver, London, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Hong Kong and Washington, DC. Since joining PSB in 1996, Jonathan has been a key part of the company's growth from a 30+ employee operation with one office to the multinational corporation that it is today. As COO, Jonathan created all of the company's revenue-supporting departments and tailored them to meet the evolving needs of PSB, with minimum bottom-line impact. His accomplishments in this area include developing a company intranet as a web-based command and control system, creating a multifunctional, SOX-compliant accounting department, and founding an IT department that not only supports the requirements of the company but also generates revenue through database management interfaces. In his capacity as COO, Jonathan also created two complementary, proprietary, labor-saving software programs to automate data presentation and scripting, and inspired a proprietary data entry point system that integrates accounting, marketing and client management platforms and enables hyper-accurate business performance analyses. He also initiated and implemented an innovative mechanism for conducting telephone polls that increases both capacity and capabilities without additional staff. Jonathan is responsible for the development of the company's hiring guidelines and employee policies and the creation of the company's professional mentoring program and performance oriented incentives, which have increased the employee retention rate average from 14 to 48 months.
As PSB continued to attract new clients, Jonathan developed and implemented a complete company restructuring to enable its sale to WPP Group in November 2001. The sale of PSB was reported by the Washington Business Forward as "the deal of the year." Jonathan is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of PSB's wholly owned subsidiary, PSA Interviewing, which employs more than 2,000 people annually.
Prior to becoming COO, Jonathan was PSB's Director of International Market Research. He specialized in international politics, working on political campaigns in countries including Costa Rica, Suriname, Venezuela, Panama, and Thailand. Domestically, Jonathan worked on the Clinton-Gore reelection campaign in 1996 and the Hillary Clinton Senatorial campaign in 2000, as well as for many corporate clients, such as Nike, Nissan, Microsoft, BP, and Ford Motors.
Before joining PSB, Jonathan was a member of the Clinton White House, working as Assistant to the Director of Presidential Speeches. During his time at the White House, he also served as a liaison to the Office of Communications and Strategic Planning.
Jonathan graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations. He and his wife Kelly live in Washington, DC.
